The festival of colors!
The festival of Holi
Holi is the most fun filled festival celebrated in India. Not only in India, this festival is now being adopted in various parts of the world to experience the joy of playing colors. Holi signifies the welcoming of spring and marks the celebration of the triumph of good over evil. It is a day when people express their love towards one another, forget and forgive embracing new beginnings.
How is Holi celebrated?
So, how is this festival traditionally celebrated?
On the day before holi, the “Holika Dahan”, bonfires are lit in the street corners to drive away the negative evil spirits. People sing and dance to the dholaks around the bonfire and share sweets with their near and dear ones this evening.
On the next day, the “Rangwali Holi”, people smear color powders and water colors on their friends and family members. This fun filled activity is what Holi is all about.
Significance of the color powders:
Each color used in playing holi signifies something different. The primary colors used in a Holi carnival are red signifying love, green - new beginnings, yellow - warmth, and blue signifies Lord Krishna.
